And So It Begins....

The week gone by has been very satisfying, in varied terms and aspects.Although I've to warn everyone that (I might have cited this before in some posts, maybe) satisfaction is a relative term and varies from person to person , and also according to situations.I had planned to do certain things this week, set aside some deadlines and formed a rough idea of outcomes expected of a certain event ( I call it that way as it matters to me very much, and I'm sentimental about it). Needless to say all the deadlines were met ( make no mistake, doesn't usually happen with me );infact I over-performed ( if I may say so, given the context below). The outcomes till now have been ,well, outstanding.Atleast to me.And then something I'd totally forgotten of came my way again, and after I decided to have a go at it, it left a very positive impression and after-effect, which in this case is very important for me, or for that matter any graduate/to-be graduate.

First, the outcomes.Might seem outlandish, boring, retarded or simply childish but I've to share it with others , just to feel that sensation of elation grow even taller. Please bear with me for this once.I tested my graphics card/GPU for the first time with over-clocking, and boy! it amazed me to it's core! It's an nVIDIA GeFORCE 6600 256 MB GPU which cost me seven grands , and it sure is worth every penny of it.Not that I had any doubt of its performance, just that after overclocking it has become a monster.I gotta have another round of Doom3 with it.

OK ,now to other scenarios. The deadlines. It so happens that I'm very short on classics, both in terms of literature and cinema and so decided to do something about the later this weekend. Why the sudden impulse ? Well, that's easy enough to explain. My dearest buddy seems to be very updated in this respect and he has an enviable collection of many of the IMDb top 250 roster. I only got to know of it very late, and so without losing any more time I decided to gormandise on some Hitchcocks and Welles and Kurosawas and Kubricks and..... and ended up watching 20 of them.I'd planned for some 7-8 for the week but then these masterpieces are bloody addictive and I simply kept on queueing them up one after the other. You see, if there's something I do get interested in ( and there's not many I can tell you ), then there's no stopping me.That's me talking alright, someone for whom indolence is eternal bliss ! I guess there won't be no more questions regarding my lack of 'motivation'! ( was there any ? )

And now the one concerning UGs and to-be UGs : I had my first formal/pro interview this thursday for internship.I know it sounds incredulous that one has to fight it out even for an intern ( GOD knows what's gonna happen for the job race !) , but then that's how the situation is at the moment.Myself, with the 'Euro-Dream' shattered and being a staunch believer in indolence, had given up all hope for a good intern ( I basically wanted a fat- stipend paying intern so that I could upgrade my comp, aka gaming monster). I have not much to write about in my CV and with other crack-heads( read 8 and 9 pointers ) looming on the horizon it's better to wait 'n watch, which is exactly what I had in mind. But somehow with a fit of craziness I applied for Schneider Electric which was coming to campus for interns ( specifically for Power students), and with nothing to loose ( & frankly, I thought, nothing of much to gain either as other better suited guys too were going to turn up.Now don't read too much into it, I'M NOT HOPELESS ! I've lots of dreams n desires, all in technicolor, mind you ). And I did finally turn up at the interview ( after much coaxing from my friends, THANK YOU ALL ). Now this is the positive part.Although I was quite aware of the wrong notion of interviewers being projected as 'GODZILLAS' and Frankestines and others of related genealogies ( blood-suckers to be more precise) , but still, considering it was to be my FIRST PRO level interview, I was a bit nervous, some butter-flies in the stomach ( it can be bigger and more diverse than mere butterflies in many cases, believe me ), wet palms etc.But these symptoms were totally ill-founded the moment I entered the EE CR (that's where the game was being palyed ). These three guys ( lucky me, they're from HR ) were so amiable, affable and cheerful that I didn't even realise when my slot of 10 minutes were over. They were more interested in my interests than my grades or acads. Now it's not always that it happens this way, but what I want to say is that it's very important for someone to have the first interview go smooth and easy.First impressions.Very important. It totally builds ones attitude and outlook towards future events. If for some reasons mine didn't turn out to be such a memorable experience then it sure would have formed a sort of foreboding for future interviews, not at all a good sign. The first experience has to be sweet. It doesn't really matter whether or not one is able to crack it, that's secondary. But one should make sure that it's something he/she can look forward to in the future. If you don't give yourself the chance then there's no point lamenting over it.Self-inspiration is indispensable.I was lucky I had mine with these guys.Atleast for the time being I don't have to walk into an interview room envisaging Godzillas, Draculas and all.And that's what matters the most.

PS : 1. Just came to know today that I finally have made it to Schneider . I guess those guys were crazier than me after all.
